Plains Art Museum is the only American Alliance of Museums accredited art museum in the state of North Dakota and Western Minnesota. Plains is committed to exhibiting a diverse array of artists and exhibitions, with an emphasis on works by Indigenous practitioners. The Katherine Kilbourne Burgum Center for Creativity, a multipurpose arts facility that offers hands-on learning opportunities, with specialization in ceramics and printmaking, opened in 2012 and greatly expanded Plains' capacity to serve the community. Plains' permanent collection of over 4,000 objects, featuring international, national, regional fine art, and ethnographic objects, is held in trust for future generations and utilized by students, researchers, and scholars. The museum is free admission and open seven days a week.
